Tasty Mac and Cheese

Readers beware! This dish may be the cheesiest and creamiest mac and cheese out there. It’s one of those dishes that become better as it’s reheated the next day and the next. We have an old recipe of this dish, and over the years, we have changed it up (ex: milk instead of whipping cream, etc). Sorry to Tina for taking so long to update this recipe! We hope you enjoy this dish as much as we do. :) Let’s begin!

Bouchon Las Vegas

Hi everyone, we recently went on a little vacation to Las Vegas and had a really great meal at Bouchon.  Like most of our loyal viewers, we watch a lot of food shows on travel and bravo tv.  We noticed that a lot of the food shows mentioned uber chef Thomas Keller, so when we found out that he had a restaurant called Bouchon in the hotel we stayed at, we had to try it!   So, Bouchon is Keller’s bistro style restaurant in the Venezia tower section of the Venetian Hotel & Casino.  The restaurant has a minimalist style of decoration with lots of white, black, and dark wood colors.   The lighting is pretty bright actually and they offer outdoor seating too which we would like to try in the future.   We felt very comfortable in the restaurant so the ambience was great!  On to the food!

bouchon1

We started with the Beignets de Brandade de Morue or simply fried cod dough balls.  These were really great!  They were light, crispy, and full of flavor.  Each beignent was garnished with a piece of fried sage and sundried tomato.  We both thought they were best enjoyed together in one bite!  We also had to get the macaroni and cheese!  The mac and cheese was served in a cute cast iron pan and the flavor was perfect–not too cheesy, not too greasy.

bouchon2

Following the great starters, we got our entrees.  We went with Truite au Chou-Fleur and the Steak Frites.  The trout was amazing good!  They used a lemon butter to flavor a prepared boneless trout with a potato and cauliflower confit.  The steak itself was an flat-iron cut, which is normally pretty rough but this one was decently tender.  It was very flavorful but we both didn’t like how there was a layer of grilled onions on top of the steak.  We course didn’t mind the butter but the onions were slightly overwhelming and overpowering.   Onions on the side would have been a better choice for us!  The french fries were great.  In his show, ‘No Reservations,’ Anthony Bourdain describes the fries as one of the best he ever had and we have to agree it was our favorite of all time.

We really liked Bouchon and would of course like to eat here again.  We would like to recommend it to everyone for great tasty food.  The prices were very decent too for a pretty high-end restaurant. Overall, thumbs up!!!

Next time we’ll review some local restaurants and then it’s more tasty meals at home!
